Maria Rosa Franzin

Home / Maria Rosa Franzin

Maria Rosa Franzin was born in Libya in 1951 but lives and works in Padua. She studied goldsmithing at the Art Institute “Piero Selvatico” in Padua with Mario Pinton and then painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In her work, Maria Rosa Franzin often uses ancient techniques and materials. Her close relationship with the world of art has greatly influenced her works. From the very beginning she has adopted a pictorial approach in her jewellery. She uses tiny gold stains on the surface of white or oxidized silver, as if it were painting that applies to the surface of the metal in the form of brushstrokes or small dots. This pictorial approach stems from her background at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where she trained as a painter. From the very beginning, Franzin used gold in a very light, almost inconsistent way.
